THE BONGA CANOE PADDLE

This paddle pays homage to George Bonga, a legendary voyager, fur trader, and guide whose resilience and skill helped shape North American history.

This teardrop-shaped paddle, with its shorter, wider blade, is ideal for paddling in shallow rivers. It is designed for efficient, smooth, and quiet propulsion in shallow water. Wider than other paddles in the Badger range, it is also a popular choice for paddlers who like a short, powerful blade offering excellent acceleration.

Most river paddles have a squarer blade. At Badger, we are particular about smooth and quiet blades. That's why we offer this traditional version with a smoother, more fluid blade for better propulsion.

For pack boats: Compared to our other models, this paddle has a higher shaft-to-blade ratio, allowing more leverage for steering strokes. Pack boat paddlers, who sit on the bottom of the canoe, also find this an efficient paddle because they can have a shorter overall paddle where the shaft suits their stroke, and the blade, being shorter, is easier to enter and exit the water from a seated position.

Badger's signature hand-shaped transition ridge (between the shaft and the blade) provides a strong spine that extends well into the blade. It then tapers gradually into the blade, allowing for even flex towards the center. This ridge also promotes a smooth flow of water around the blade for a smoother, more fluid paddle stroke.
